JFK...OMG Armageddon
by Poztate ina post triggered this memory for me and perhaps for you.
i don't know if this was widespread or a local thing.. john fitzgerald kennedy was the president of the united states... he was also catholic in faith.
it was wide believed at the time and in our location that he would institute programs against the wtbts that (could) leave to armageddon.

Absolutely! I don't think I would have ever listened to the witnesses if I could have googled them first.

I love it when people make threads and then set the rules of engagement. You are kidding, right? Do you have a secret handshake too?

I am the Faithful and Discreet Slave
by jwblog inwhen i first attended the congregation of jehovahs witnesses i never even thought about whom or what was the faithful and discreet slave.
i do not believe that this information is ever taught to the public directly.
i think you have to be baptised or start attending the same meetings as those that are baptised.. anyway what made all of you adapt the teaching of the faithful and discreet slave (class or whatever)?

My beliefs tend to change daily, but I don't see God coming to the aid of the sick and suffering. The "bully" seems to continue unrestrained.

Hey, I'm no Einstein But......."The New Jerusalem"
by jwblog inthe new jerusalem .
"the jewish people to whom i gladly belong and with whose mentality i have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people.
as far as my experience goes, they are also no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power.

You are free to believe what you want, but be careful about setting time limits. You may just have to die like every other human has so far. There are a lot of people who thought they would never have to face death that are now in the ground.
The idea of physical immortality was the carrot that led me into the witnesses. I'm afraid I will need a plan B because I don't think the first one is going to work out so well.

I think it is a bad move also. Meeting in small groups in private homes was one of the things that is actually scriptural. It also helped people not to get lost in the crowd. It is amazing how they can link everything to armegeddon coming. If they were adding a meeting, they would say the same thing and all the dubs would nod in agreement.
The only logical reason to eliminate the book studies in private homes is the pedophile liability issue. Nothing else rings true.

Nice video and nice song. I never thought that Ringo had a really great voice and I still don't. I am a huge Beatles fan and the memories in the video are great.

no more preaching to be done
by DaCheech inwell sort of:.
today, i heard my token sunday talk.. the brother somehow brought up the following:.
"many are speculating that there are many changes coming soon...... including the end of preaching work....... well, just because the faithful and discreet slave has ended the weekly study weeting........... this does not mean that all other things will cease.

As much as I would like to see the door to door work end, I don't see it happening. They need to keep the dubs on the hamster wheel. Keeps them from having time to think. They still brag that they are the only religion preaching "the kingdom good news" and list this as a reason they are the only true religion.
How would they measure their spiritual worth?

philosophical question
by Hortensia ini keep thinking about this when i'm driving but forget to ask when i'm online.
when prozac came out, i read an article by some "authority" who was debating the wisdom of changing someone's feelings artificially with antidepressants.
the argument was that it is better to be authentic and depressed than artifically happy and medicated.

If you had high blood pressure, you could perhaps get it back to normal through proper diet, weight loss and exercise. That would take some time though. Would it be wrong to use medication to keep it normal and avoid serious complications, in the meantime? Later, if lifestyle changes helped, the medication could be tapered and discontinued. It is possible that the lifestyle changes would not work and the medication would have to be continued for life to avoid stroke, kidney damage, etc.
When it comes to disorders involving the brain and nervous system, there seems to be a double standard in some people's minds. It somehow becomes a moral issue or one of laziness. Anti-depressants are not a cure-all for mental depression. They can be a tool to help while a person is working on issues in their life. There is still a need to put forth effort and make changes in life that will help us to cope. Some diseases are chronic though and depression certainly can be. If meds. help prevent the complications of depression such as the lack of ability to feel joy, withdrawing from life and suicidal thoughts, then they are a useful tool and certainly not a cop-out.

Thanks for the review Blondie. The watchtower's explanation of God's allowance of adversity rings really hollow. What would you think of a good friend that had the capability to come to your aid in a time of trouble but never showed up to help? Would you continue to trust and rely on that friend?
The article about the 19 years ending in 1931 was enlightening. I always thought they said the cut-off date was 1935. I must have missed something along the way. It was quite entertaining to read that it became apparent that the parable had nothing to do with the selection of the annointed. It has become apparent that they are just making things up as they go along also.
I agree that the watchtower uses the OT much more than the NT. It suits their purposes better. After all, where would they be without their God of judgement and vengence?
